My sentiment regarding Athens changed dramatically over the course of Spring Break, but my first impression was actually great. Athens was the perfect middle ground between typical Europe (i.e. Italy) and North Africa (i.e. Egypt). It was semi-familiar, but exotic at the same time. We got lost trying to find our hostel and a really nice man came out of his shop and tracked down a person who spoke English to help us find our way there. We went to the Acropolis of Athens, got in free because we had Spanish student cards (thank you EU politics!), and took pictures by the Parthenon.
We took the metro to the Olympic Stadium, which was a slight let-down. It was deserted and not well-kept. My favorite part of Athens was the open air market. There were tons of cheap things-- fruit, jerseys, purses, sunglasses... We spent a long time browsing and then ate an amazing greek dinner.
