This last trip to Athens was very short. We arrived at our hostel late at night and decided to go store our bags at the airport the next morning. We had a few hours to kill before our flight to Barcelona and wanted to walk around the city. We purchased a 24-hour metro pass and were almost to the airport when the ticket-checkers came by. Apparently, you are required to get a special airport metro ticket. We did not realize that there was a difference since the tickets cost the same amount, but even so, we were all fined. 60 euros. It was ridiculous.
We were all so mad, tired, and disgusted with the metro system that we just decided to stay in the airport. It was a disappointing end to our stay in Greece. This was a day I chose not to document with photos.
